Built-in webcam

camera.builtinHands-on · observedHigh confidence

How it tests

Opens the built-in camera with V4L2, shows a small live preview and asks whether the tester sees themself move. With no camera device it fails at once and names the missing driver (FaceTime HD PCIe, iSight firmware, T1).

How it decides

Supported: the tester sees themself move. Partial: frames but a wrong picture. Failed: no device, no stream, no frame within 6 s, or a black picture.

How sure it is

Mirrors stock Omarchy, which has no FaceTime HD driver either. The preview is small and grey, but movement is easy to judge. Still a plain answer.

On a real Mac

  • On a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012): 14–16 fps.

What could mislead it

  • Could pass when it shouldn'tA camera that streams but with heavily wrong colour isn't caught in a grey preview.
