Built-in keyboard and function keys
How it tests
Draws the Mac's keyboard (US ANSI, with model variants), grabs the built-in keyboard and lights each key as it's pressed. The top row counts as F-keys or media keys according to the keyboard's fn table. The power key and Touch ID are left out.
How it decides
Supported: every drawn key registered. Partial: some keys, and the tester says the dark ones don't respond. Failed: no keyboard device, or nothing registers.
How sure it is
Key events from the kernel are direct proof. Only the US layout is drawn.
On a real Mac
- On a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012): 77 of 77 keys.
What could mislead it
- Could fail when it shouldn'tAn ISO or JIS keyboard has keys the US drawing lacks or places differently; the tester gives up on keys that do work.
- Could fail when it shouldn'tThe tester stops early on a key they find awkward and calls the rest dead.
